Message from Principal Mike McLaughlin


NBHE Parents,


Greetings fellow Buccaneers. Let me take a moment and go over some important events happening this week at the NBHE campus.


MAP testing continues for our elementary students. When results come back in a few weeks each teacher will be working with you on individualized personal learning plans for each child based on his/her math and reading results. It is important that you work with your child's teacher on this. One simple way you can help tremendously is getting your child on Success Maker every night. Success Maker is on on-line program built off of how your child did on the MAP test- it is individualized and will adapt to your child's ability level. It is important that you "do not help" your child get the right answers- as hard as that is- I get it I watch my two elementary kids struggle too:). Here is why- if you give them the correct answers, the program will adapt and become harder and harder and it will take them to a level he/she is not ready for. Rather, show them on the side how to figure it out by giving them other examples. And just know some times there are problems (especially in math) that will not be age appropriate (my 1st grade daughter had a 3 digit multiplication problem last night). So don't worry about those just move on. The MAP testing window is this week and next so if your child doesn't test this week he/she will next. More to come......


Wednesday will be the incentive party for all of those who finished their summer work! Great job everyone!


I appreciate all of the volunteers helping and assisting the first week of school. It has helped in our smooth start to the school year. We so appreciate you!!!! Keep up the hard work we need you!


This upcoming Friday is the high school football team's season opener against Rutherford at the new Tommy Oliver stadium at 7:00. We hope you can make it. The PTSP is hosting a "NBHCA Tailgate Party" from 5-6 at the NBHE pavillion. This is a free event so please join us whether you are going to the game or not. There will be free food and games for all.


Finally, I just wanted to remind everyone to stay plugged into what is going on. Ms. Hendrickson and I work on the NBHCA calendar daily and keep it updated. Go to and look at the calendar of events on the right hand side to stay organized and in tuned to what is going on. Have questions? Email either one of us.

Art Club

Sign-up for Art Club will be on Friday, Aug. 31st, 2018.   The club is limited to the first 24 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students who are interested in improving and developing their acrylic painting skills. Art club will meet on Tuesdays from 2:45 - 3:45 and will be picked up in front of the Elementary School.




Choir Club

Choir Club will meet on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45 (or immediately after school,) pick up is in the elementary loop and is at 3:45 sharp.  Rehearsals will begin on the Tuesday, September 4th in room 128.  After-School Choir Club is open to fourth and fifth graders who enjoy singing.  If your student is interested in being a part of this wonderful group, please contact Mrs. Enfinger via email: with your student's name, grade, homeroom teacher and parent contact information including name, email address and contact phone number(s).  Parents must email me for their student to be on the After-School Choir roll.



Morning Drop-off - Parents, please plan to drop your student off in the car drop-off line. We do not have enough parking for everyone to park and walk their child/ren to class. If you must park and walk your child in, please park in the lot by the gym or across Mill Bayou in the dirt. And then you must be out of those lots by 7:35 am. Please do not park on any of the grass anywhere on campus. The  elementary parking lot is open only to preK parents and staff until 7:15 am.




Odyssey of the Mind Competition Tryouts

ATTN: 3rd - 5th Graders


Mr. Therrien will be having tryouts for the Odyssey of the Mind competition on Aug. 25th. If you are interested in being creative, learning new skills and working cooperatively with a group; please look over the problems outside the STEAM lab and put your name down for the problem that you are interested in.


Tryouts will be held in the Elementary Cafeteria on Saturday Aug. 25th @ 8am.

Elementary and Middle School Families

Hello to all!   My name is Michele Krane and I am Director of Fundraising for Your PTSP.  We hold one major FUNdraiser each year.  This year, already, we have purchased:  Shades for the Elementary Playground, Bleachers for the Tennis Courts, and are in the process of decision making on other purchases.  Previously we have purchased:  The Shades for the High School side of the outdoor eating area, the Elementary Playground, and others.


We can only do this with your help!  


The major FUNdraiser we usually hold is the Walk-A-Thon for Elementary and Middle School.  This year we will be changing it up a little and going with a company,  This will be our first year of holding the FunRun and we need volunteers to help.  There will be a meeting Monday, August 20th, at 8:00 am in Room 131 at the elementary to discuss what the FunRun is and how you can help.  ALL GRADE LEVEL PARENTS ARE WELCOME.  If you want to start and finish your required 20 hrs of volunteer time before November, this is the activity for you.


I hope to see a lot of helpers, maybe even new directors there!  Monday, Aug. 20th @ 8:00 am, in Room 131 at the elementary.


You will need to stop by the office and get a name tag.  If this will be your first time getting a name tag, please remember your driver license (see, one thing to check off the list).



Volunteer Opportunities

Hello NBHE parents,

We have two opportunities coming up next week to earn some volunteer hours and get a start on those 20 hours for the year!

We have the summer work incentive party scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd. Help is needed from1-2:40pm.


We also have the PTSP family tailgate night scheduled for Friday, August 24th. We need help from 4-6:30for that event.

Family Night Tailgate Kick Off

PTSP is presenting a Family Night Tailgate Kick Off to start the school year on Friday, August 24th from 5:00pm to 6:30. Join us for free food and some fun lawn games for the kids! Food will be at the Elementary PE Pavilion and games on the grassy area.

Box Tops

Last year we exceeded our goal for Box Tops collection. This year we have increased our goal to $1500 and I KNOW we can achieve this!!!


Please bring in your box tops in a zip lock bag labeled with your child's name and teacher. We will be doing a class competition and the class that wins will get a party!!


There will be a box in the front office of the elementary school for your box tops donations. Many of the teachers also have a box in their rooms for collections. 


I will be collecting all box tops on Friday, October 26, 2018. No collections will take place after that until the spring. Keep bringing in your box tops!!
