Kindergarten parents use the gym parking lot between 7:00-7:40but please be gone by 7:45 as this parking lot is also used by our high school students.

2.  New School Hours

The school hours have been changed due to having over 2000 students on one campus (we had to allow time for traffic flow) and because we had to add at least 15 minutes to our day per state requirements. Therefore, here are the new times:

***Middle School- 8:00-3:20

3. Communication at NBHCA
Good communication is very important to us. At NBHCA we use three main sources to communicate news. First, and most important is our website at It is here you will find teacher website, email addresses, the Google calendar that is updated daily and includes all events, and you will also start finding our weekly eblasts and daily student announcements. The other two forms of communication are through weekly eblasts (which usually come out Tuesday), and the North Bay Haven Charter Academy Facebook page.

6.  Summer Work

Summer work has been posted on our websites since June- please make sure your child is getting this done so they start school ready on August 10th. This is one of major philosophies of our charter school- parents must help us out here and get your child to do the summer work. K-8 will have summer work parties and HS students will either receive a grade or extra credit (depending on the HS course). Again, parents help us out here as this is one of our school’s expectations.

7.  Campus Map, Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

It is very important that you know this routine ahead of time. Please read the attachment on where and when to drop off and pick up your child. Also, on the same handout, there are explicit instructions on where you can park. Please read this and know this ahead of time.

8.  Student Parking Passes

There are only a few student parking passes left. Please contact the office before they are gone.

9.  High School IPADS and Dell Chromebook Touch

As a requirement, all NBH HS students are required to have an IPAD (any model of IPAD). New this year, we are also allowing DELL Chromebook Touch 11 3189. Only these two devices are allowable at this time. Students that have an IPAD do not need to change but rather continue using what they currently have. The school does not sell either one of these but rather, it is the responsibility of the parents/students to purchase one on their own. Students/Parents, you can either purchase an IPAD (any model) or DELL Chromebook Touch 11 3189 on your own, or you may use the following link to purchase it at a discounted price: who are on the free and reduced lunch program, or for those showing financial hardship will qualify for renting an IPAD from the media center. For a hardship application, visit our website and fill out an application and return to our IT department. We will have a mandatory student/parent orientation meeting

10.  Supply/ Paper Drop Off

**NBHE- Parents may drop off supplies and paper at your orientation or you may send it in the first day.

**NBH MS/HS- Paper drop off will either be at orientation (drop off by the cafeteria) or on the first day of school.

11.  Kindergarten Staggered Start and Boo Hoo Breakfast

Kindergarten students will have a staggered start. Half will start on Thursday, August 10thand the other half will start on August 11th. We do this to get the students comfortable before starting them all together on Monday, August 14th. You will be contacted this week on which day your child will start. We encourage all of our kindergarten parents to walk their child in on either Thursday or Friday. Park in the high school parking lot between 7:00-7:30 but make sure you are out of there by 7:45 so you are not ticketed. Stop by the PTSP sponsored “Boo Hoo” breakfast table and grab a donut and coffee for the road. Starting Monday, August 14th, let us take them so please don’t plan on walking them in- rather drop them off and staff will walk them in. If you have any questions please ask at orientation on Wednesday, August 9th.

12. Student Handbook and Parent Expectations Contract

On the website under the “for students and/or for parents” section, you will find the 2017-2018 student handbook / parent expectations contract. Please review them, sign, and return them on the first day of school to your first hour teacher. It is important that both you and your child read and understand our high expectations at NBHCA.

13.  NBHE Grand Opening Ceremony

You are invited to the grand opening of NBHE on Wednesday, August 9th. The ceremony will start in the gym at 2:00 before we process to the new NBHE building to cut the ribbon. There will be a quick self-guided tour before finishing up back in the gym at 3:00 for a light refreshment.

14. NBHCA Under Construction

You will notice a lot of new things when you enter campus this week. Besides the new elementary campus being finished, you will also notice a few other changes such as: the addition of the outdoor cafeteria dining area, the elementary playground, the paved athletic complex parking lot, and under construction the athletic complex, PE pavilion (behind MS), and administration office/ media center. We will have certain area’s roped, taped or fenced off. If you find an area that is roped off, taped off or fenced off DO NOT enter this area.

15. New Main Entrance for MS/HS

There are two main entrances for both schools. The main entrance (and only entrance) to NBHE is in front of NBHE by the double doors. Look for the signs and flags. Do not enter in the stairwells and do not try and enter from the campus courtyard area. This is a major safety violation. The new main entrance to the MS/HS office is between the gym and NBHE- look for the signs and flags. The old entrance is under construction and should not be used. We now call this are the bus loop. Visitors are not allowed to park there anymore. We have left it open for band and choir students, and for students that park in the athletic complex but visitors should not use this entrance.

16. NBH Spirt Wear

We will start selling spirit wear next week, Monday, August 14th. Your students may purchase this in the office. High school students are allowed to wear approved spirit wear every Wednesday and Thursday. K-8 students may only wear approved spirit shirts on certain days (noted on the calendar). If your child purchased a spirit shirt last year, you may wear it again this year. However, it must have been an approved spirit shirt- not all NBH shirts are approved (such as made at home, purchased through athletic teams, etc.) If you are unsure bring to the office first to double check. Reminder for outerwear, K-8 can only wear jackets purchased through Zohgby’s or Tommy Hilfiger, not clubs, band or sports teams. The student handbook spells out the policy in greater detail.
